Tulip Time 2012 poster features 'dream' of tulips
Tulips typically aren’t the subject of Brittany Strabbing’s paintings.
But the vibrant pink tulips she created in her piece, “Beautiful Dream,” will represent the 2012 Tulip Time Festival.
Strabbing’s acrylic painting was unveiled Thursday evening as the winner of this year’s Tulip Time Art in Bloom poster competition.
“I’ve always loved and painted horses — that was my thing. I did realistic art with a lot of shading,” said Strabbing, of Zeeland. “Being a stay-at-home mom now with a son running around, I wanted to do something more fun, creative, colorful — and a little easier to paint.”
Strabbing is the second winner of the Art in Bloom contest. The new Tulip Time poster selection process began last year as a collaboration between Tulip Time and the Holland Area Arts Council.
Strabbing’s winning entry shows more than a dozen bright pink tulips in various states of bloom. She calls the painting “semi-impressionistic.”
