Soldier Surprises Daughter for Her Birthday

DALLAS, Ga. - For the families of our servicemen and women, deployment can be tough. A local active duty soldier has a 3-year-old but has never been able to celebrate her birthday with her.

That all changed on Thursday when he came home to give his daughter the surprise of a lifetime.

When you're protecting the freedom of an entire country, you tend to miss some important milestones in your own life. But one soldier didn't want to miss an important date -- his daughter's birthday.

Mariah Goldsmith is about to turn 4-years old. But at her preschool, the Sunshine House in Dallas, it's business as ususal.

At least that's what she thinks. Because watching her, just a room away on surveillance monitors, is her daddy. (around 14.30)

This is the closet SPC. William Goldsmith has gotten to his daughter since he's been deployed in Kosovo. His second deployment in three years, He's always missed all of Mariah's birthdays.

“The first time I came home from Afghanistan on leave, she acted like she didn't even know me. She just stared at me. So hopefully this time, it will be a lot better,� said SPC. William Goldsmith.
