Flowers down - oh what a bloomin' shocker
"The frangipani come from Mexico and really need to be in sub-tropical areas, those which get lots of sun all day and are protected from cold winds, and they must, must, must have sandy soil so water drains away.
"Any that are in clay-type soil will be under stress because of the soaked ground not draining and so their flowers are not happening.
"They also love heat, and if the tree is in a place where it doesn't get it all day it will be suffering because we just haven't had enough direct sun this summer.
"Even the frangipanis up the coast where it's much warmer have been very late with their flowers."
The easiest way to save a young frangipani, most at risk from sodden soil, is to cut a circle shape from black plastic sheeting or even a garbage bag, according to frangipani expert Ms Ross.
