Sons making state tour with a fresh, new sound
T heir home state of Virginia has been good to the exploding career of the Sons of Bill and they are showing their gratitude by playing a series of free concerts across the state, beginning with a March 20 performance at Mockingbird.
The Charlottesville-based band will be playing its hometown at the Paramount Theater on March 22 and also be playing dates the same week in Virginia Beach, Arlington, Richmond and Roanoke. The week-long state tour is in celebration of their third CD, "Sirens," to be released March 26. Shows are free on a first-come, first-served basis, as they invite fans to celebrate with them.
The group consists of brothers James, Abe and Sam Wilson, Seth Green and Todd Wellons. Since their inception, they've grown from a local band to regional act that has expanded just as quickly into a national touring group that is highly respected in rock and roll, country and alt-country circles.
It's difficult to categorize their music, but many tried while describing their first two recordings, saying they had influencesthat had echoes of the Byrds, Gram Parsons, Robert Earl Keen, Neil Young and countless other disparate musicians. But they had hinted that with the recording of "Sirens" that they wanted to make a project that sounded just like themselves.
