Trinity rides Ferguson to 10-point victory

When Amber Ferguson wasn't dominating the paint on Thursday night, she was hunched over a trash can behind the Trinity Catholic bench, physically ill.

Ferguson, the Celtics' 6-foot-1 junior center, spent much of the week home from school with what she called "a head cold that just got worse."

But she answered the bell for Trinity Catholic on Thursday, and then some.

Ferguson finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds as the Celtics gutted out an ugly, 42-32 win over Williston, Trinity's first playoff victory in five years.

"It was hard, but God led us through it," said Ferguson, who was pale and exhausted with no voice left after the game.

Ferguson and a pair of freshman guards — Shambria Washington and Grace Ergle — keyed a surge in a fourth quarter that began with Trinity clinging to a 31-29 lead.

Ergle opened the fourth with a pair of steals and a bucket on the offensive boards that ignited a game-ending 11-3 Trinity run.
